Dr. Chenzira N. Martin, Ed.D.

Dr. Chenzira N. Martin writes for people who pray for somebody else.

She is the daughter of Rev. Dr. Lloyd David Hayes, who retired after forty-three years in the pastorate, and of Bernice Hayes, from whom she inherited the fragrance she intends to leave behind. That house formed her. For more than twenty-three years she has served alongside her husband, Rev. Marcus L. Martin, in Columbus, Ohio.

She reads Hebrew and Greek, and she will stop a devotional cold to show you the word underneath the word: why train up means dedicate, why the woman was built rather than spoken, why the wheel stands beside the living creature rather than beneath it.

More than thirty years of her life have been spent in classrooms, sanctuaries, training rooms, and the community rooms where the work gets decided. She has written more than one hundred Christian education curricula, led seminars, teacher trainings, and professional development sessions, and taught from twenty-plus platforms. Her published research examines the climate of a struggling classroom, the systems that fail the children inside it, the discrepancies poverty drags behind it, the lost child nobody came back for, and artificial intelligence — in education, in the church, in leadership, and beyond.

Her other fluency is technology. She designs and teaches in software engineering, cybersecurity, and STEM, carrying students and working adults from a first line of code to a credential.

At home she answers to Yammi. Her firstborn, Nia, married Ramone — a son-in-love — and gave her Ayden, her Lub and Dub, the sound of her own heartbeat, plus a bonus granddaughter, Kelani. Her youngest, Lloyd David Hollis Martin, carries two names and two men: her father, Lloyd David Hayes, and her late father-in-law, Hollis Martin. Both names were given on purpose.

Thirty years of writing came first. These are the first books she has published, not the last.
